Punters have been quick to step into some short priced favourites for Saturday’s Flemington meeting with Helmet, Mosheen and Black Caviar all very popular early.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters had identified the three as good things on Saturday but he was happy to let them on. “We took bets of $10,000, $5000 and a number of $1000 and $2000 bets on Mosheen in the first few hours of putting the market up and she has shortened from $1.85 to $1.80,” Sullivan said. “Helmet was also well backed early with one punter having $16,000 and he has been rock solid at $1.75.

“Many punters are doubling Mosheen or Helmet up into Black Caviar or even taking the treble.” “I am happy to let the punters on though as Mosheen is in a high class field while Helmet does a few things wrong, isn’t great first up and probably has an eye on the Guineas and Dubai.”

is currently $1.12 with Sportingbet and Sullivan said they expected punters to step in again. “Her supporters are fiercely loyal and why wouldn’t they be after the wins she has given them and they will come for her again this week,” he said. “Dropping from 1400m to 1000m against the second best sprinter in the country means we will be taking her on again but it is becoming a very costly exercise for Sportingbet.”

Sportingbet Australia will sponsor the Cox Plate for the next five years in a new multi million dollar deal with the Moonee Valley Turf Club.

The race will be called the Sportingbet Cox Plate and Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said he was delighted to be sponsoring the premier weight for age race in the country.

“The Sportingbet Cox Plate is one of the iconic races in this country and no race has produced champions like it has over its near 100 year history,” Sullivan said.

“This is the biggest single commitment we have ever made to a sporting or racing organisation which shows just how much faith we have in the race and the Moonee Valley Turf Club.”

Sullivan said the sponsorship was a further commitment to the Victorian racing industry on top of the product fee paid to Racing Victoria and numerous other sponsorships.

“I have always said Sportingbet would contribute well over and above the product fee we pay to RVL and this is another example of how committed we are to ensuring racing in Victoria continues to grow,” he said.
“This sponsorship will see Sportingbet contribute over $5m to the industry in Victoria alone next year in product fees and sponsorship.”

Already an existing sponsor of the MVRC, the new enhanced deal will make Sportingbet Australia the major sponsor of the MVRC.

“We have been a sponsor of the club for over two years but this deal involves a significant increase as the major sponsor from July 1, 2012,” he said.

Moonee Valley Racing Club Chairman, Bob Scarborough said he was delighted with the partnership.

“The Moonee Valley Racing Club believes that this exciting partnership with Sportingbet Australia will be of great benefit to both organisations, and will ensure that the Sportingbet Cox Plate will remain as the Australian Weight-For-Age Championship,” Scarborough said.

“The Club has developed a number of exciting initiatives for the Sportingbet Cox Plate in recent years, including the move to make this an international invitational race.

“The Club will continue to focus on growing the profile of the Sportingbet Cox Plate in key international markets, and we believe that the partnership with Sportingbet Australia will assist the Club in these endeavours.”

Here are out top three harness racing tips for Albion Park harness racing on Saturday 2 July 2011

See all the latest odds for Albian Park harness racing at Sportingbet here.

Race 1 Number 3 Garnet River

Garnet River is a massive chance to take the win in race one. He has his eyes set for the 4/5 year old championship and look unrepairable to this line up. Expect him to lead early and if challenged will have some in reserve as shown on a number of occasions.

Race 5 Number 3 Yul Brunner

Yul Brunner has struggled in his last couple of runs at Melton but expect a different race as this race is a step down for him and should score easily. His finishing speed gives hope in any tricky position making him well worth a look.

Race 7 Number 10 Forever Gold

Quick becoming a fav for Queenslanders Forever Gold has had some huge runs at Albion Park and ran very well in the Gold Coast Oaks last week. Although she has drawn poorly Forever Gold is know to dig deep and fight to the end.

If you looking for the best harness racing bookmaker you can’t go past Sportingbet where they give you a massive $150 free bet just for depositing $30. See the Sporting bet site here for more details on this offer.

Round 17 of the 2011 NRL Season is reduced but don’t expect things to be subdue making footy tips difficult. The bookies have the odds of majority of the games fairly close so expect some classic NRL action.

Best Bet of Round 17: This week I’m taking Parramatta team bet of Jordan Atkins to score more tries than Chris Walker paying 3.10 at Sportsbet here

Parramatta Eels V Brisbane Broncos Friday night at Parramatta Stadium

Tip: Broncos

Odds: Eels 1.67 Broncos 2.20

Broncos coach Anthony Griffin has done a massive job this year with his young players and has exceeded my expectations. These young players will need to stand up with the their origin stars away this week.

I think the Eels will struggle after the disappointing loss last week and are too up and down at the moment. My prediction is the Eels will get run over by a stronger Broncos side.

Penrith V Canterbury Saturday at Centrebet Stadium

Tip: Canterbury

Odds: Panthers 2.45 Bulldogs 1.55

Penrith will struggle without star origin player Petero Civoniceva who has been the difference in some of the Panthers wins. Penrith are playing around with their game style that could pay off in the coming weeks but think the Bulldogs will see it coming.

Although the Bulldogs lost last week they showed they can create the chances needed to win games like this and I’m tipping them to go one step further and finish them off.

Take the Buldogs here at the -6.5 line paying a nice $2.10

Cronulla V South Sydney Sunday at Toyota Stadium

Tip: Sharks

Odds: Sharks 2.20 Rabbitohs 1.67

Without captain Paul Gallen this week it will show us where the Cronulla team is at the moment. A win here could inspire them to continue their consistent year to achieve greater things.

South Sydney will start favourites but without Dave Taylor and Greg Inglis in the team I cant go past Cronulla especially with Nathan Gardner in super form from fullback.

I’m loading up on the Sharks for the straight win. $2.20 to me sounds pretty generous.

Sportingbet have a massive promo currently running giving new members a $150 free bet! Simply use the promo code BETFREE when joining and make a deposit of $30 or more and they will credit your account with $150.

St George V Newcastle Sunday at WIN Stadium

Tip: St George

Odds: Dragons 1.70 Knights 2.15

Wayne Bennett has been a key to the Dragons side this year and they will look to him again this week as the under manned Dragons look to make it 2 wins in a row.

Their defense has been top class which will see the Knights struggle to score which will suit the home crowd.

Sydney V Canberra Monday at Sydney Football Stadium

Tip: Canberra

Odds: Rooster 1.95 Raiders 1.85

Sydney don’t look like a winning side at the moment with numerous key players out on State of Origin duties. They are down on confidence and it looks like the 2010 finals may have taken a toll.

Although the bookies think this match will be a close, my prediction is the Raiders will take an easy win.

It might be worth taking the Raiders by over 13 points paying $4.00 at Sportsbet.

Round 15 of the 2011 AFL footy season promises to make your footy tips tricky this round. Below you will find all your footy tips, predictions, match previews and latest odds to help make the right choice.

The Bulldogs will have another mini final when they face Melbourne at Etihad stadium Friday night to kick off the round. I am really looking forward to the Richmond vs. Carlton game on Saturday afternoon and the 2nd Vs. 3rd Blockbuster Sunday between Collingwood and Hawthorn before the round concludes with another must win between North Melbourne & St Kilda at Etihad.

Best Bet of Round 15 for me is the Brisbane Lions between 1-39 which is paying 2.25 at Sportingbet.

Checkout the pro/celebrity tips for round 15 here

Western Bulldogs V Melbourne Friday night at Etihad Stadium

This is another must win for the Dogs as they look to win their third in a row. Adam Cooney was brilliant last week getting the Dogs out to a big lead in the first half before they took their foot off the gas in the second half but still won comfortably.

The Demons are in the eight after their big win against the Tigers last week. Number one draft pick Jack Watts is starting to show Demons fans why Melbourne rate him so highly and hopefully he can continue his good form for the rest of the season.

In what could be a high scoring game I think the demons can get the points to cement their spot in the eight.

Tip: Demons by 21 points

Odds: Bulldogs 2.04 Demons 1.79

More often than not Friday night footy starts with a goal as first scoring play, this looks good at $3.50

Richmond V Carlton Saturday at the MCG

Both teams are coming off losses in Round 14. The Tigers were gutsy against Melbourne but could not find a consistent goal kicker up forward. They will recall Jake King after a one week ban and may look to include midfielder Shane Tuck after some good form in the reserves in recent weeks.

Carlton were expected to win last week but were confronted by a West Coast team full of confidence. Full back Michael Jamison will be missing for the next month with a knee injury and the Blues may welcome back Jarred Waite, Ed Curnow, Nick Duigan & Brock McLean.

Tip: Blues by 17 points

Odds: Tigers 4.00 Blues 1.25

At $24 the qtr. by qtr. leaders of Carlton/Richmond/Carlton/Carlton looks very appealing to me

Fremantle V Gold Coast Saturday at Patersons Stadium

The Dockers were slow starters last week against Brisbane but got the points in the end with skipper Matthew Pavlich leading from the front. They will again be without All Australian ruckman Aaron Sandilands after he reinjured his foot.

The Suns fought the game out to the end last week and only went down by 22 points when it could have easily been another 80 point blowout. They will go into this game as heavy underdogs again and will need everyone to play the game of their life to get the points here. Brandon Matera & Trent McKenzie should be additions to the side as the Gold Coast will continue to rest young players throughout the season.

Tip: Dockers by 67 points

Odds: Dockers 1.10 Suns 7.25

Fremantle to win between 60-69 is a risky bet but at $9.00 could be worth putting a few dollars on

Essendon V Geelong Saturday night at Etihad Stadium

Five weeks ago many would have pencilled this in as a Blockbuster against top four sides. The Cats are still undefeated but since then Essendon have lost 5 in a row and look to be lost out on the field.

Will the acquisition of Bomber Thompson from Geelong over the summer help Essendon here? Maybe a little, but they will need a lot more to go right if they are to get close to the Cats.

Watson, Lonergan & Myers are out for Essendon with injuries and the Cats will likely recall Bartell, Ottens, Kelly, Stokes, Hunt & Vardy. Enough said.

Tip: Cats by 46 points

Odds: Bombers 7.50 Cats 1.09

Essendon got away to a flyer against the Hawks with a goal inside 20 seconds, if they can repeat this against the Cats and score the opening Goal before any other score it is paying a healthy $4.50 at Sportingbet.

Sportingbet give you a massive $150 free bet just for depositing $30 and using the promo code BETFREE when joining! See more details on the Sportingbet site here.

Adelaide V Sydney Saturday night at AAMI Stadium

The Crows showed some good signs late against Geelong last week which will please their coaches and fans. David MacKay and Richard Tambling are possible call ups at the expense of Henderson, Schmidt, Jaensch & Symes.

The Swans showed against Collingwood that they can still match it with the best only falling short by a goal. Their never say die attitude keeps them in every game. Goodes, Bolton & McViegh will lead from the front as they should get the points against the Crows.

Tip: Swans by 35 points

Odds: Crows 2.95 Swans 1.40

Adelaide/Sydney/Sydney/Sydney quarter by quarter leaders is paying $8.50 in this one.

Brisbane V Port Adelaide Sunday at the Gabba

This will be the only game of the Round that will not any effect on the rest of the competition. Both teams are desperate for a win for their fans and will come out firing.

The Lions with home ground advantage will prove too strong for Port Adelaide.

Tip: Lions by 28 points

Odds: Lions 1.40 Power 2.95

It’s a 50/50 bet at $1.95, choose either even or odd for the total score of the match combined.

Collingwood V Hawthorn Sunday at the MCG

This will be an absolute ripper. Second Vs. Third on the ladder and a possible finals preview. Expect a huge crowd at the MCG on Sunday.

Collingwood let a 5 goal lead slip against Sydney and found themselves trailing in the last quarter before rallying to win by a goal. Alan Didak will miss a couple of weeks through injury but the Pies could welcome back premiership stars Darren Jolly & Brent Macaffer.

The Hawks blew away Essendon last Friday night without spearhead Lance Franklin who will come back in after his one match ban. They will be without Jordan Lewis for 2 weeks through suspension, while Cyril Rioli & Brad Sewell have been added to the Hawks ever growing injury list.

Tip: Pies by 12 points

Odds: Magpies 1.31 Hawks 3.50

The Hawks have had some big first halves this year and the Magpies are the dominant team in finishing games, The Hawks halftime leaders/Collingwood full time leaders is paying a healthy $6.80

North Melbourne V St Kilda Sunday at Etihad Stadium

The Roos are one of the form teams of the competition in the last month and will need another win to stay in touch with the top eight. Drew Petrie is in All Australian form and their younger players are starting to stand up.

After a week off with the bye St Kilda will come back refreshed and ready for a second half push to make the eight. They will need their leaders to have a stellar second half to the season if they are any chance of finals. They will be forced to make at least one change with Justin Koschitzke out for 2 weeks through suspension.

Tip: Saints by 3 points

Odds: Kangaroos 2.00 Saints 1.82

The Halftime margin of St Kilda leading between 1-12 is paying $4.10 and could be worth looking at.

Punters have launched into Beaded for Saturday’s Tattersall’s Tiara with the Doomben 10,000 winner backed from $2.25 to $2.00 at Sportingbet Australia.
Beaded was narrowly beaten by Sincero in the Stradbroke after starting from an outside barrier and Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters had found plenty of reasons to back her.
“We took two early bets of $10,000 at $2.25 and there has been a string of other four figure bets at $2.10 and even money,” Sullivan said.
“We haven’t laid a decent bet on any other runner at this stage and it isn’t hard to see why punters like Beaded.
“She is drawn to get a really soft run from barrier unlike the Stardbroke where she got posted and still nearly held on.
“Under weight for age, she is also very well suited against this field given she is the only Group One winner of the mares besides the out of form Culminate with filly Yosei the only other Group One winner.”

Varenna Miss is on the second line of betting at $6.00 ahead of Zero Rock at $9.00 and Hurtle Myrtle at $11.
“Varenna Miss was very impressive last start but this is a lot harder while Zero Rock has been gallant all preparation but she meets Beaded 3.5kg worse than the Stradbroke so it is easy to see why punters have settled on Beaded,” Sullivan said.

With his long time nemesis, Tiger Woods, sitting on the sidelines, punters have launched a huge betting plunge on Phil Mickelson for the US Open backing the five times runner up into joint favourite at $13.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Mickelson had been backed from $16 to $13 and would take out over $1m if he won his first US Open after being the bridesmaid so often in the past.

“The plunge started with a bet of $10,000 at $16 on Tuesday and then we took a bet of $40,000 each way at $15 on Wednesday and the money has just kept coming,” Sullivan said.
“Having finished runner up five times, you would think his chances of winning the US Open would be just about gone and this looks like his best chance of finally adding one to the trophy cabinet.
“With Tiger on the sidelines, Mickelson will be the big draw card this year and punters have no doubt he is the man to beat.”
Mickelson is joint favourite with Lee Westwood at $13 but Sullivan said away from Mickelson, punters were looking for a little value.
“We have taken bets to win $50,000 on Rory McIlroy at $21, Steve Stricker at $26 and Martin Kaymer at $29,” he said.
“There has also been good money for K.J. Choi and Hunter Mahan.”
Sullivan said the best backed of the Australians had been rising star Jason Day and the experienced Robert Allenby.
“Day is the shortest of the Aussies at $41 along with Adam Scott and he has been well supported while Robert Allenby has been backed from $126 to $101 with one bet to win $37,500,” he said.

The big money keeps coming for So You Think to make it three from three in the Northern Hemisphere at Royal Ascot tonight with a $200,000 bet struck at Sportingbet Australia.

The dual Cox Plate winner had already shortened from $1.42 to $1.40 but Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters were still coming.
“We took a bet of $100,000 at $1.42 on Monday and then a bet of $200,000 at $1.40 and he is now into $1.33,” Sullivan said.
“He rewarded punters in Australia so often and they have little doubt he can keep his winning run going at Ascot.

“We knew how good he was when he went to Ireland and his performances so far look like he may have got even better which is scary.”

Sullivan said there had been very little money for any other runner in the Prince of Wales Stakes.
“Planteur is on the second line of betting at $5.00 and there has been a little money for him but nothing for any other runner,” he said.

Two time Stradbroke Handicap winner Black Piranha is challenging Beaded for favouritism in Saturday’s race after the latter drew badly in barrier 17.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters had switched attention to the Con Karakatsanis trained veteran.
“There was a move for Black Piranha yesterday with him backed in from $7.00 to $6.00 but that has intensified since the final field market went up today and he’s now into $5.50,” said Sullivan.
“Some strong pre-post betting has Beaded still a $5.00 favourite but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them swap in the next day or so.
“Black Piranha has the score on the board and he’s proved before that Eagle Farm suits him perfectly.
One time Stradbroke favourite Sincero has firmed from $9.50 to $9.00 after drawing well in barrier 4.
