One punter stands to win the largest amount in AFL betting history after an enormous wager on St Kilda to win the 2010 Grand Final was placed with leading online bookmaker Sportsbet.
The bet of $500,000 at the odds of $6 means the punter will collect $3 Million if the Saints hold the premiership trophy aloft on the last Saturday in September.
“This is the largest bet written in AFL betting history and will comfortably be the biggest ever collect if St Kilda win the flag,” said Sportsbet’s Haydn Lane.
“The Saints were as short as $3.60 less than a month ago but a run of patchy form saw their odds blow out to $6.
“Clearly this punter thought the price was too good to refuse. He has had an account with us since April but this is the first bet he’s placed.”
Prior to this morning’s bet, the biggest wager Sportsbet had taken on the 2010 AFL Premiership was a bet of $50,000 placed in March on the Western Bulldogs at the odds of $6.50.
St Kilda is now into $5 to win the 2010 AFL Premiership.

Since late Tuesday night, more than 90% of bets placed with online bookmaker Sportsbet on the Federal Election have been on the Coalition.
The weight of bets has seen the Coalition’s price shorten from $4.25 into $3.75, while Labor’s price has eased from $1.20 out to $1.27.
“There’s no doubt Labor deserve to be favourites, however, we think the election race is closer than what the current odds suggest,” said Sportsbet’s Haydn Lane.
“It seems punters think the Coalition are ‘over the odds’ and are happy to invest on them at what may prove to be an inflated price.
“We turned the Coalition into $3.85 on Wednesday but it’s clear that punters were still happy to take those odds.
“The Coalition has accounted for more than 90 of the past 100 bets we’ve taken on the election.”
The biggest bet on the Coalition in the past 48 hours was $3000 at the odds of $3.85 to collect a possible $11,550 from a new member.
“One punter opened an account on Wednesday, deposited $3000 and placed the lot on the Coalition,” said Lane.
In Two Party Preferred Swing betting, a 1% – 1.99% swing to the Coalition has replaced a 0.001% – 0.99% swing to the Coalition as the new favourite.

One punter with online bookmaker Sportsbet will turn a $5 investment into more than $8000 if Typhoon Tracy can win the Doncaster Mile on Saturday.
The punter had a seven-leg multi bet at the odds of $1676.34 on a combination of AFL and NRL matches last weekend. The final leg of the bet is for Typhoon Tracy to win the Doncaster.
Typhoon Tracy is unbeaten in her last five runs – four of those at Group 1 level – and goes into the race as the $3 favourite with Sportsbet.
“We often get excited by the bigger bets, but spare a thought for this $5 punter who stands to win a motza if Typhoon Tracy can get across the line first on Saturday,” said Sportsbet’s Haydn Lane.
“She is certainly the one to beat and I don’t think she’ll be too disadvantaged by her wide barrier (14).”

$3.20 NRL – Wests Tigers to beat North Queensland Cowboys by 1-12 points (Wests Tigers won by seven points)
$3.60 Typhoon Tracy to win the Doncaster Mile – Saturday, 17 April @ 3.35pm
Looking at the list of bets above it doesn’t look extremely risky at all. If Typhoon can get up on Saturday it will be defiantly be one to the punters and will leave Sportsbet shaking their heads in disbelief.
