This weeks match of round 9 is The Pies V The Cats. It will be 2 weeks running where on Friday night both matches have been 1 v 2 on the ladder. It is set to be another great match against these clubs and defiantly one to watch.

Best Bet of Round Nine

This week I’m taking a four leg multi bet. Take Geelong, Sydney, Port and St Kilda to win paying a handy $8.92 with Sportsbet here.

Collingwood V Geelong Friday Night at the MCG

Tip: Geelong

Odds: Collingwood 2.09 Geelong 1.75

The match of round 9 should be a beauty! Both clubs are in near perfect form and will be going into the match with confidence.

I think Geelong will be able to win the game by exposing Collingwood’s younger players in the midfield and around the forward line in Chris Dawes, Steele Sidebottom and Dayne Beams.

North Melbourne V Western Bulldogs Saturday at Etihad Stadium

Tip: Western Bulldogs

Odds: North Melbourne 4.10 Bulldogs 1.24

The Bulldogs impressive win last week against Sydney showed their supporters that they can match it with class act sides and will dismantle the inexperienced North side early in the match.

Although the Bulldogs will be without key play-makers Murphy and Johnson they have enough depth to be able to cover them and should be able to win by over 39 points which is paying 2.85 at Sportsbet.

Sydney V Fremantle Saturday at the SCG

Tip: Sydney

Odds: Sydney 1.74 Fremantle 2.10

If this game was played over in the West it would have been much tougher to tip but being at the SCG the Swans should be right. They play great football on their home ground and the long flight over will only make it tougher for the Dockers.

Keep an eye out for Jarrad McVeigh for Sydney, his tackling pressure and fight for the ball last week was brilliant and will see him rack up a lot of dream team points again this round.

With added inspiration of the announcement of co-captain Brett Kirk’s retirement at the end of 2010 should see the Swans over the line.

Melbourne V Port Adelaide Saturday night at TIO Stadium (Darwin)

Tip: Port Adelaide

Odds: Melbourne 2.35 Port 1.60

Melbourne was very disappointing last week against West Coast in front of their high spirited home crowd, they seemed to go back to their 2009 ways and at times didnt look at all interested in the game. It will be hard for them to turn it around this week with the trip to Darwin and playing against Port who look to be a top 8 side this year.

Saturday is predicted to be 31 degrees and humid with chances of thunderstorms so expect a low scoring match. It might be worth chucking a few dollars on Port to win by under 24 points. Its currently paying 3.35 at Sportsbet but I’m tipping the odds to shorten if rain sets in so get your bets on early.

Essendon V Richmond Saturday Night at the MCG

Tip: Essendon

Odds: Essendon 1.28 Richmond 3.75

This could be one of the Dream time matches to remember with Richmond showing some spirit last week over the Hawks. Teams seem to lift at these big event games and upsets have been known to happen so don’t put your house on the line if your thinking about betting on this game.

The difference could be Essendon’s Tayte Pears and Kyle Reimers who are expected to return from injury for this match. Look for this weeks NAB Rising Star Jake Melksham, he played a handy part in the Bombers surprise win over the Saints and will be out to do the same again.

Adelaide V Brisbane Sunday at AAMI Stadium

Tip: Brisbane

Odds: Adelaide 2.18 Brisbane 1.69

Brisbane will bounce back this week after a heavy loss to Geelong and I expect Fev to start to get back into some form after a lackluster start with his new club.

Adelaide are getting deeper and deeper with poor form and a long injury list so I can’t see a way out for them against the Lions.

My prediction is the Lions by 40 points paying 4.65.

Carlton V Hawthorn Sunday at Etihad Stadium

Tip: Carlton

Odds: Carlton 1.36 Hawthorn 3.17

The Hawks have all but given up this season so expect the Blues to have a big win as they continue their way up the ladder.

Blues captain Chris Judd is in great form at the moment and looks unstoppable when he has the ball in his hands, the hawks don’t have a clear match-up for him and will dominate the game.

If your looking for a good bet on this match Carlton to be leading is paying $2.00. I think that’s pretty good value when looking at 1.37 for the straight win.

West Coast V St Kilda Sunday at Subiaco Oval

Tip: St Kilda

Odds: West Coast 2.01 St Kilda 1.81

This match has turned into a must win for St Kilda as they keep trying to reorganise their side with out Nick up forward.

The Saints last two losses have been against arguably the quickest teams in the AFL (Carlton and Essendon). They will be looking forward to playing West Coast who rely on height more than run and should be able to effectively play their defensive game.

Sam Fisher is slowly becoming accustom to his roll in the forward line so this match could be the one where he makes his mark on the game.

One punter with online bookmaker Sportsbet will turn a $5 investment into more than $8000 if Typhoon Tracy can win the Doncaster Mile on Saturday.

The punter had a seven-leg multi bet at the odds of $1676.34 on a combination of AFL and NRL matches last weekend. The final leg of the bet is for Typhoon Tracy to win the Doncaster.
Typhoon Tracy is unbeaten in her last five runs – four of those at Group 1 level – and goes into the race as the $3 favourite with Sportsbet.

“We often get excited by the bigger bets, but spare a thought for this $5 punter who stands to win a motza if Typhoon Tracy can get across the line first on Saturday,” said Sportsbet’s Haydn Lane.
“She is certainly the one to beat and I don’t think she’ll be too disadvantaged by her wide barrier (14).”

$5 Multi bet with Sportsbet at the combined odds of $1676.34 to win $8376.68

Odds Selection
$2.25 AFL – St Kilda to beat Collingwood by 1-39 points (St Kilda won by 28 points)
$2.50 AFL – Brisbane to beat Port Adelaide by 1-39 points (Brisbane won by 27 points)
$2.25 AFL – Western Bulldogs to beat Hawthorn by 1-39 points (Western Bulldogs won by 16 points)
$3.15 AFL – Fremantle to beat Geelong by 1-39 points (Fremantle won by seven points)
$3.65 NRL – Gold Coast to beat Melbourne by 1-12 points (Gold Coast won by four points)
$3.20 NRL – Wests Tigers to beat North Queensland Cowboys by 1-12 points (Wests Tigers won by seven points)
$3.60 Typhoon Tracy to win the Doncaster Mile – Saturday, 17 April @ 3.35pm

Looking at the list of bets above it doesn’t look extremely risky at all. If Typhoon can get up on Saturday it will be defiantly be one to the punters and will leave Sportsbet shaking their heads in disbelief.

A massive rivalry round of football with some important top eight clashes and a couple of local derbies to add to the mix. To name a game of the round would be too hard with so many blockbuster games on but I think the St Kilda V Western Bulldogs game also the classic Carlton V Collingwood clash on Friday night could prove to be the most exciting games of the round.

Sports Bet of the Round

Last weeks four leg multi bet of the round just scraped in with the Richmond drawn game which halved the winnings but at least we still got to collect.

This weeks bet of the round is Geelong, Sydney, Freo and Adelaide also in a multi bet. There’s plenty of value here and will pay around $5.00 at Canbet who will also give you a $40 free bet just for using the promotional code 2040BFF when signing up and making $20 worth of bets with them. Carlton V Collingwood Friday Night at the MCG

Tip: Collingwood

The Pies are coming off a shock loss to the Hawks last weekend and they will be out to win as they can’t afford another loss this time of the season.

The end result will depend on another great game from Dane Swan as he continues the best form of his career. Swan is fast becoming Gary Ablett’s toughest opposition for the Brownlow with another 35+ possession game last week. The Pies by 30 points.

Geelong V Hawthorn Saturday at the MCG

Tip: Geelong

What a time for the Grand Final rematch. The Hawks supporters believe they are back on track and this game will truly show if they have even a little of their form back from last year.

The Cats will be out to embarrass Hawthorn and keep the Hawks chances of a top eight spot slim after the unexpected Grand Final loss last year. My prediction is this will be the case with a 30+ points win.

Fremantle V West Coast Saturday at Subiaco

Tip: Fremantle

This game is the “tanking” match of the round. West Coast can’t afford to win another game and loose the chance of a priority draft pick. Freo on the other hand have 3 wins so can get another victory while being under the 5 game cut off for the extra pick.

So looking at this I’m tipping Freo and the bookies agree with Sportsbet pricing Freo at $1.70 ahead of the Eagles $2.20. Get a $50 free bet with Sportsbet just for signing up with them through Sportsbet Blog, check their site out to join and for the latest odds.

Brisbane V North Melbourne Saturday Night at the Gabba

Tip: Brisbane

Depending on other games, the Lions could see themselves in the top four after round 17 is complete. They will see this game as an opportunity for a much needed percentage booster with a few tough games on the road ahead.

It will be a tough ask without Daniel Bradshaw and Jared Brennan both out for around three weeks but they have a fair bit of depth that should see them through at least this game.

St Kilda V Western Bulldogs Saturday Night at Etihad Stadium

Tip: St Kilda

A massive test for both clubs. St Kilda will be without forward Justin Koschitzke and Zac Dawson with both being pulled up by the tribunal. This will force the Saints to change things up a bit which could cause some headaches for Ross Lyon. It could be a blessing in disguise for the Saints with a near unchanged side this year.

I think they have enough belief in their game that should see them home but not without a fright from the Dogs. The Bulldogs have shown that they have alot of spirit with a fight back last weekend after trailing most of the first half.

Melbourne V Sydney Sunday at Manuka Oval

Tip: Sydney

Both teams are coming off heavy losses and both out of contention for the finals. Swans defender Ted Richards is an obvious omission for the game in Darwin after suffering from a punctured lung, broken ribs and internal chest bleeding in last weeks game against Carlton.

Jesse White is a shining light for the Swans, there has already been talk of him to taking Barry Hall’s position now that he has retired. He will be out to make his mark in the game after last weekends four goals and 12 kicks in his best game since joining the AFL.

Essendon V Richmond Sunday at Etihad Stadium

Tip: Essendon

This is a must win game for Essendon for a chance to play in the finals this year. They currently sit 8 on the ladder with 8 wins and 8 losses along with Port and the Hawks.

Angus Monfries will be a key inclusion up forward for the Bombers after recovering a hamstring injury.

The Bombers should get a comfortable win by around 24 points to continue the Tigers disappointing year.

Adelaide V Port Adelaide Sunday at AAMI Stadium

Tip: Adelaide

The Crows will be desperate to get their confidence back up after a disappointing effort against the Saints last week. They play AAMI stadium well and have the man power to get over Port.

Showdown XXVII will see the return of Nathan van Berlo and Rob Shirley which are are missive inclusions for Adelaide and Patrick Dangerfield is also expected to play after a heavy knock to the head last weekend.
