Ireland’s largest bookmaker Paddy Power who are also owners of Australia’s Sportsbet made a massive decision on the weekend to pay all bets at the halfway mark of the US PGA for Tiger Woods to win the tournament. Woods was 4 shots in the lead at the time.
It can be a good business move as it increases the likelihood of punters betting their early winnings on other big events like round 1 of the English Premier League that started on the weekend. It also gives Paddy Power alot of good publicity with word going all around the world including right here on this blog in Australia!
Paddy Power said “Tiger is a dead certanty he just doesn’t lose from the front.”
“It’s cost us an arm and a leg but the way we see it is that we’ll be paying it out on Sunday night anyway so his backers may as well get their cash now and enjoy the rest of the weekend on us!” Read more of this article »

There has been big betting interest in Ex Australian Idol judge Kyle Sandilands job replacement with some huge betting in the past week with a result nearing.
It is the latest market to open at SportingBet after Kyle Sandilands was given the sack over a radio prank gone wrong earlier this week.
SportingBet has placed former Australian Idol host James Mathison as favourite ($2.25) to take the job. I think this would be a good move for Channel 10 to try and boost viewer ratings which have been on the decline in recent years and to get back one of the shows familiar faces. Although he would slip straight back into the show I think Idol should look at getting a new face to freshen things up a little. Read more of this article »

What’s this involve you ask? Around every month or two Sportsbet have a massive free bet promo weekend with six ways of getting some great free bets just for placing a few bets or making a deposit.
Last time Super Saturday was on I took advantage of the the offer called Resurrection Bet. This one is my favourites because if you lose you get a 100% refund of your bet to place on the following Wednesday. For example, if you put $200 on a horse to win and it comes 2nd by a nose there no need to worry, you get your money back! Just make sure you bet on the nominated Resurrection Bet races that are listed on the Sportsbet site and you can’t lose.

The worlds most grueling bicycle race the Tour De France is under way for the 96th time with Cadel Evans looking to improve on his second place finishes in 2007 and 2008 to become the first Australian to win the coveted title. Evans led for much of the 3,500km last year and to fall back in the last few stages. It was a great disappointment for the man who had started the race as favourite but many people are predicting that Cadel at 32 years old is at the peak of physical fitness and endurance and could just win at his fifth attempt.
Of course Evans has a lot of other competition to consider. Last years winner Carlos Sastre is bound to be up at the front, but there is also the Lance Armstrong factor to be aware of.
There will be something of a circus surrounding the seven times winner that will knock a lot of riders concentration. You would have to think that Armstrong who has been out of the sport for sometime and who has spent much of his comeback recovering from a broken collar bone will have little chance of just rocking up and winning this one. In fact Armstrong himself doesn’t expect to challenge and is just hoping to do a respectable job and bring some good publicity to his Livestrong cancer campaign. Despite this Sportsbet are paying out $5.50 and Lance Armstrong is second favourite to win his eighth Tour De France. Put you money elsewhere in my opinion. Read more of this article »

It has been an unforgettable year for Australian Formula 1 driver Mark Webber. For years he has been carrying the tag of ‘the unluckiest man in racing’ driving cars that simply weren’t up to scratch. But in 2009 his luck seems to have changed as his team, Red Bull Racing, and new comers Braun have over taken the likes of Mclaren and Ferrari to become the top teams in the competition.
Braun are the surprise leaders and are storming away with the constructors championships, but with Red Bull taking first and second in Britain there is no doubt that are catching. Mark Webber made his fourth podium finish behind team mate Sebastian Vettel and will go into the next race in Germany full of confidence and fully expecting to take out his first F1 victory. But can the Australian really pull it off? God Knows the guy deserves it and with the Red Bull car absolutely flying at the moment there is no reason why he can’t.
The only downfall for him may be that his team mate Sebastian Vettel is ahead of him in the drivers standing and the Red Bull team may go with a stratergy that suits him rather than Webber. But if Webber can make pole and then just keep his cool in to the first turn it will be his race to lose. Go to Sportsbet now for your free bet on Red Bull pulling in Braun in the Constructors Championships it is well worth a little punt. Read more of this article »

Tabcorp have decided to back down on copyright claims directed at Sportsbet in an embarrassing end to what could have been a massive change to the betting industry.
Back in February Sportsbet Blog wrote of the legal action being taken out on Sportsbet which can be found here. Tabcorp claimed that Sportsbet had been using their tote dividends on its website which was in breach of the copyright act costing them $58 million every year.

Motor mouth Floyd Mayweather Jr is coming out of retirement for a second time to prove that he, and not Manny Pacquiao, is the greatest boxer in the world. The desicion came after talk amongst fans and experts said that Mayweather would struggle against Pacquiao. A claim that has gathered support after Pacquiao destroyed Engishman Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton inside two rounds.
Mayweather has stated that he wants to go down in history as the greatest boxer of all time and to do that you have to beat the best. To give the guy credit he has never once ducked a challange. This is because he realises that a boxer is only judged by the great fighters that he has fought, and that his unbeaten record means nothing unless he has some big name scalps to back it up. He has already come out of retirement to fight Hatton, who was unbeaten at the time, and gave him a serious boxing lesson. He will now come out of retirement for the second time to take up the challenge of the hard hitting Pacquiao.
But First Mayweather must get past tough Mexican Jaun Manuel Marquez on July 17th in Vagas. Marquez has a wealth of experience with a record of 50 wins 4 defeats and 1 draw, with the draw coming against Manny Pacquiao in 2004. He did lose the rematch, but Pacquiao knew he had been in a fight and only won by a split decision in Las Vegas early last year. Marquez is a typical South American fighter technically sound, can take a punch and never gives up. It is a dangerous combination, but is it enough to beat the classy shoman style of Mayweather. There are plenty of betting strategies around but hedge betting is the only and a great way to guarantee a winning outcome from a bet. Basically bet hedging is used as insurance on another bet, but there are only certain times where hedging can be properly used.
Scenario 1.
You place a $10 five team multi bet on the AFL which will pay a profit of $100 if all five teams win. Your bet is going really well and the first four teams win. The fifth and last game, lets say St Kilda Vs Geelong are playing in few hours and you need Geelong to win for the multi bet to pay. This is where you have the opportunity to hedge your bet. With a $7,000 trophy and a total prizepool of around $700,000 on offer it is no wonder that the Doomben 10,000 is seen as one of the most prestigious horse races in Australia. May 23rd will see the 76th running of the race, as well as millions of dollars bet on the outcome. Here at sportsbetblog.com.au we are giving you the run down of the top three contenders while the people at Centrebet are offering you a free $50 bet when you sign up with their site.
Apache Cat $3.20
Apache Cat won the 2008 Doomben 10,000 and will start this years race as the hot favourite. There was some doubt that the horse would make it to the start line after he was reported to be lame by Queensland racing vets after finishing a close third in the Doomben Cup. But trainer Greg Eurell has dismissed the report and feels that Apache Cat will be on top form for the big race. “The vet’s been right over him and basically his interpretation was that in any sport, no matter what you do, you can give your maximum and, the next day, you know you’ve given it your best. He said he wasn’t lame, but he may have been feeling his joint a little bit. There is no heat and there was no swelling and he could go around every horse at Doomben and find similarities in many cases. He’s been right over him and cleared him. It’s back to business.” Said Eurell. Apache Cat is hot favourite for a reason get your free $50 bet on him at Centrebet Read more of this article »
