With less than a week to go until all four houses on The Block go under the hammer, online bookmaker sportsbet has installed Josh and Jenna as favourites to record the highest price at auction.
Josh and Jenna are priced at $1.90, slightly in front Rod and Tania at $3.00, with Polly and Waz and Katrina and Amie bringing up the rear at $5.50 and $6.00 respectively.
“While the transformation of each house has been remarkable, Josh and Jenna have the only double-fronted house on The Block which should see them record the highest price at auction,” Sportsbet’s Haydn Lane said.

Here is round 17′s celebrity/professional AFL footy tips. There are a few differences between them this week with a 50/50 split between Adelaide and Essendon for Friday nights match.

Both Dennis Cometti and Robert Walls are the only ones to tip St Kilda to beat the West Coast Eagles.

This week I like Tony Leonard’s footy tips. He has picked Collingwood to win by 30 which might be a little conservative but the rest look pretty spot on.

Australian punters have predicted the Queen will wear a yellow hat to Royal Wedding, in just one of a variety of novelty markets available with online bookmaker sportsbet.
“We’ve taken literally thousands of bets on the Royal Wedding, with the vast majority between $1 to $10 from punters looking to have an extra interest in the telecast,” sportsbet’s Haydn Lane said.
Below is a brief description of the markets, with a quote from sportsbet’s Haydn Lane under each.

Colour of Queen’s Hat
“Pastels have been popular with punters for the colour of the Queen’s hat, however, yellow is the clear favourite and has firmed from $7 into just $2.75. Grey has been unwanted and has drifted from $6 out to $26.”

Length of Kate’s train

“A train of 2.01 metres to 5 metres has been backed off the map from $2.25 to $1.33. This option has attracted the biggest bet to date with sportsbet on the Royal Wedding – $2000 at odds of $1.91.”

Colour of Kate’s dress

“Ivory has been the hot favourite since betting opened with just $1.67 on offer.”

Year of first child?
“2012 has been easily the best-backed year for the couple’s first child at $2.25 from punters who think William and Kate won’t waste too much time!”

Name of first child?

“In a wide open market, the best-backed baby names to date have been ‘Diana’ at $9 for a girl and ‘George’ and ‘Henry’ for a boy at $11 each. Not surprisingly, we’ve taken no bets on ‘Fergie’ at $251!”

Rain on the wedding day
Yes      $2.50 into $1.30
No        $1.50 out to $3.20

“The weather forecast was looking great until a few days ago. It now appears there’s a good chance of rain on the day.”

Will Kate use the word ‘obey’ in her vows (market closed)
“$2 was on offer on Kate not using the word ‘obey’ in her vows. We then took a string of bets in quick succession on this option shortly after it was announced that Kate would not say ‘obey’ from punters who heard the announcement before we did!”

Sportsbet Tip of the Royal Wedding

Stick with what you know. It is very likely to rain on the wedding day so $1.30 isn’t bad odds. Better than interest in the bank! See the latest odds for this market here.

Leading online bookmaker Sportsbet gives notice that it will fight the NSW State Government’s recent attempt to ban Sportsbet’s Betbox.
The Betbox is a touch screen computer which provides access to Sportsbet’s wagering services across the internet.  Sportsbet operates under the jurisdiction of the Northern Territory Government and the website Sportsbet is regulated by the Northern Territory Racing Commission (“NTRC”) which has approved the Betbox.

The recent introduction of amendments to the Unlawful Gambling Act 1998 (NSW), which is about to become law, is designed to prevent Sportsbet.com.au and hotels in NSW from operating a Betbox from retail venues in the State of NSW.  The new law was rushed through Parliament without any consultation with Sportsbet, and to our knowledge, the hotel industry in NSW.

In May this year, the NSW State Government advised Sportsbet that the operation of the Betbox would not be regarded as contravening NSW gaming and wagering laws.

As a result of this assurance from the NSW Government, Sportsbet has installed a number of Betbox units in licensed premises throughout NSW.

Sportsbet views the action by the NSW State Government to prohibit the operation of the Betbox in NSW is a clear case of discriminatory protectionism, preventing free trade and commerce between the states and territories of Australia, and  is designed solely to protect the NSW TAB from interstate competition.

Sportsbet intends to vigorously challenge the validity of this new legislation once it becomes law and will be requesting that the NSW State Government not enforce the provisions of the amended Act whilst the legality of the law is under legal challenge.

Sportsbet will also give users up to a $200 free bet that can be used on the Sportsbet Betbox, click here to find out more info on the Sportsbet free bet offer.

Punters with leading online bookmaker Sportsbet believe that should Labor win tomorrow’s federal election, they will have a new leader by the time Australia next goes to the polls.

However, it’s a different story with the Coalition, with Tony Abbott favoured to keep the top job for at least a full term should the Coalition win tomorrow.

“Should Labor win the election, on the whole punters don’t think Julia Gillard will be at the helm in three years time,” said Sportsbet’s Haydn Lane.
“On the other hand, if the Coalition win, Tony Abbott will be the savior and it’s hard to see his position coming under serious threat.”
In overall election betting, Labor continues to drift on the back of strong recent support for the Coalition. Labor is now out to $1.35, with the Coalition at $3.15.

Australian bookmaker Sportsbet has refunded all bets on Dustin Johnson to win the 2010 US PGA Championship after he received an unlucky 2-stroke penalty on the final hole which cost him a place in the playoff.
“Johnson was very stiff and we think it’s only fair we refund punters who otherwise would also have been stiffed out of their cash,” said Sportsbet’s Haydn Lane.
In recent times Sportsbet has refunded bets on the Socceroos in the World Cup after dubious red card decisions cruelled their campaign, on the Isner/Mahut 70-68 fifth set Wimbledon marathon, and Michael Barlow for the Brownlow Medal after breaking his leg late in the season, while paying out early on Richmond to win the AFL Wooden Spoon after only four rounds and on Tiger Woods in the 2009 Australian Masters.

Since late Tuesday night, more than 90% of bets placed with online bookmaker Sportsbet on the Federal Election have been on the Coalition.

The weight of bets has seen the Coalition’s price shorten from $4.25 into $3.75, while Labor’s price has eased from $1.20 out to $1.27.
“There’s no doubt Labor deserve to be favourites, however, we think the election race is closer than what the current odds suggest,” said Sportsbet’s Haydn Lane.

“It seems punters think the Coalition are ‘over the odds’ and are happy to invest on them at what may prove to be an inflated price.
“We turned the Coalition into $3.85 on Wednesday but it’s clear that punters were still happy to take those odds.
“The Coalition has accounted for more than 90 of the past 100 bets we’ve taken on the election.”

The biggest bet on the Coalition in the past 48 hours was $3000 at the odds of $3.85 to collect a possible $11,550 from a new member.
“One punter opened an account on Wednesday, deposited $3000 and placed the lot on the Coalition,” said Lane.
In Two Party Preferred Swing betting, a 1% – 1.99% swing to the Coalition has replaced a 0.001% – 0.99% swing to the Coalition as the new favourite.

After one of the most widely-anticipated decisions in sports history, online bookmaker Sportsbet has installed the Miami Heat as $4 favourites for the 2010/11 NBA Championship after securing the services of LeBron James.

Their quote was halved from $8 after the James announcement, while the Lakers have eased out from $3.75 to $4.25 on the back of the news.

“The Heat now with James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh look like they’ll beat whoever they please next season,” said Sportsbet’s Haydn Lane.
