The season can’t come to an end quick enough for Fremantle who 6 weeks ago were sitting 6th on the ladder and looking set for Finals before losing their way. With eighteen players ruled out for the game this does not leave Mark Harvey much to choose from.

The Dogs will do it for their retiring players quite easily.

Sydney V Brisbane Saturday at the SCG

The task is simple for the Swans, if they want a home final they need to win and hope that the Blues knock off St Kilda. After a stunning win against the Cats at Skilled last weekend they will head into the game full of confidence. Hard to see any changes to the side from last week. Can Gary Rohan light up the wings of the SCG like he did in Geelong last weekend.

The Lions have shown some very good signs of late without getting the results. They pushed the Eagles all the way last week but just come up short, again being hit by injuries and a reduced bench. Brent Staker (injured) and Luke Power (retired) will go out of the side leaving the door open for Michael Voss to test out some youngsters in preparation for next season.

Saints V Carlton Saturday night at the MCG

This will be a match with Finals like intensity with the Saints needing a win to secure a home final and the Blues needing to get some form going into a huge Elimination final against the Bombers next week.

The Saints will be without David Armitage through suspension with Ryan Gamble looking to be the likely inclusion. After a huge win against the Kangaroos last week I can’t see too many other changes to the side. Nick Reiwoldt seems to be getting back to some of his best form at the right time of the year while Brendon Goddard continues to impress, if these two can fire the Saints are a strong chance.

After a week off after getting beaten by the Hawks the Blues have seen their top four chances drop away and are now cemented in fifth and will face Essendon next week. Jarrad Waite still doesn’t seem to be fit, Brock McLean had a solid run in the VFL last week and has put his hand up for selection. I think the Blues need to settle their side this week before the big clash next week and will use the pace of their midfield to expose the Saints.

With fourth spot stitched up and a Qualifying final showdown with the Pies next week the Eagles will tune themselves up this week with a win over the Crows. John Worfold has promised not to rest a lot of players but could look to get some game time into the likes of Darling, Swift and Sam Butler so expect to see a couple of senior players rested at least.

The Power showed some great signs against the Bombers last week and should have walked away with the 4 points if it wasn’t for 10 minutes of brilliance by Essendon. John Butcher continues to show how good of a player he can be and Robbie Gray was outstanding with 6 goals. Big ruckman Dean Brogan will be hoping he is passed fit to play his farewell game for the club.

A first win for caretaker coach Todd Viney last week against the Gold Coast may have set the fire under him to apply for the spot next year. A loss against bottom of the ladder Port Adelaide could change his mind quick as the Dee’s look to finish off the season in style. Davey will return to the Dees lineup after serving his suspension. This also could be young gun Tom Scullys last game for the Dees.

If Melbourne can show their full class and potential I see them getting the win easily over Port.

Richmond V North Melbourne Sunday at Etihad Stadium

A strong win against the Crows last week sees the Tigers finishing the season strong and with a win over North will see them jump to ninth on the ladder. Jake King will miss through suspension opening the door for Ben Nason to return after showing great form in the VFL last week.

The Kangaroos didn’t show up for a big match again last week and were humiliated by the Saints effectively ending the season. Ziebell and Greenwood will both be out through suspension, Hamish McInstosh will be a certain starter for his first game of the season, while Goldstien, Wells, Bastinac & Adams could all miss through soreness.

After a week off with the Bye the Cats will be refreshed and will look to continue their dominance at Skilled Stadium. Cameron Mooney announced his retirement at season’s end but will not get a Skilled Stadium send off as he will be missing through suspension. Scarlett, Milburn, Hawkins and Mackie are all expected to return to the Cats lineup to get ready for Finals action.

If the Swans can pull off a huge upset they will consolidate their spot in the top eight. After an impressive win last week against the Saints the Swans will head to Skilled Stadium full of confidence but I am afraid they will need a lot more than just that to get over the Cats at their fortress.

St Kilda V North Melbourne Saturday night at Etihad Stadium

This shapes up as being the most important game of the round, if not the season so far. Put simply if the Kangaroos win their past 2 games (St Kilda & Richmond) and the Saints lose their last 2 (Kangaroos & Carlton) then the Roos will take the Saints place in the eight.

After thumping Fremantle by 98 points last week the Kangaroos will take form and confidence into the game. Jack Ziebell looks to be the only possible inclusion into the side after all 22 players got through last week ok.

The Saints on the other hand have concerns over Sean Dempster and Nick Riewoldt after both sustained injuries last week against Sydney. Justin Koschitzke and Zac Dawson should both come back into the side after missing last week.

For the sake of keeping some interest in next weeks matches I am tipping the Roos to get the points over the Saints here and keep their Finals dream alive.

Brisbane V West Coast Saturday night at the Gabba

The Lions put up a strong showing against Collingwood last week and another test comes this week against another top four team. I wouldn’t expect too many changes to the Lions line up from last week as they have not really got anyone pushing for selection and the way the team played last week I think Michael Voss would want to keep that same playing group together for the remaining 2 games if he can.

If The Eagles can win they will almost certainly lock up fourth position with a home match against Adelaide next week. Rumors going around are that the Eagles may rest Dean Cox for this match. With Jack Darling and Patrick McGinnity looking to get back into the side the Eagles should be too strong for the Lions as they have a lot more to play for.

Adelaide V Richmond Sunday at AAMI Stadium

With not much to play for the Crows have been outstanding since Mark Bickley took over as coach 4 weeks ago only losing one game to the Cats. With an easy win against the Gold Coast last week the Crows will look to knock off the Tigers and jump ahead of the on the ladder. Ricky Henderson, Brodie Martin, Ivan Maric and Luke Thompson will look to break into the side and tall forward Taylor Walker will face a fitness test.

The Tigers will look to make it 3 in a row after impressive wins over Sydney and Adelaide. After the success of the past 2 weeks I can’t see any changes at Tigerland this week.

If Richmond can take the Adelaide crowd out of the game and win the midfield battle I think they can get the points.

Melbourne V Gold Coast Sunday at the MCG

If there was ever a team that needed a win it is the Demons and they should get it this week against the Suns. Colin Sylvia and Aaron Davey have both been suspended and looking to replace them in the side are Tom McNamara, Neville Jetta, Tom McDonald, Jack Fitzpatrick, Matthew Bate and Matthew Warnock. Who will coach Todd Viney turn to as he searches for his first win.

The season can’t come to an end quick enough for the young Suns who look to be tiring late in the season. Sam Isles is a chance to return for the Suns but they will need huge games from Ablett, Swallow and Rischitelli if they are to knock off the Demons.

Essendon V Port Adelaide Sunday at Etihad Stadium

If the Bombers want to secure a finals spot they must beat Port as they have the bye next week and don’t want to be relying on other teams to lose for them to keep their spot. Andrew Welsch and Jobe Watson should be ok after both copped knocks to the head in their teams defeat against West Coast last week. Hurley and Pears will return after missing last week but the Bombers will be without Stuart Crameri who sustained a should injury last week.

Port Adelaide need a win in the last 2 weeks to avoid the wooden spoon but they may need to look to next week against Melbourne at the Adelaide Oval as I can’t see them beating the Bombers. In a good sign for Power fans last week 2nd gamer John Butcher booted 6 goals from 6 kicks. A similar performance this week could see him nominated for the NAB rising star.

This is another match that could shape the top four. The Eagles will be watching the Blues V Hawks game closely Fridan night knowing that if Carlton lose and they can defeat Essendon they will jump into fourth spot and could stay there till seasons end with Carlton having the bye next week. Captain Darren Glass and vice-captain Beau Waters are both likely inclusions which will bolster the Eagles back half.

The Bombers were impressive against the Bulldogs last week and have all but secured a Finals spot. Even if they lose this week they will beat Port Adelaide next week before having the bye in Round 24, a likely finishing position of seventh for the Bombers. The Bombers could travel to Perth minus a few important players with Hurley, Fletcher, Pears & Myers all in doubt.

With the home ground advantage and the Bombers poor form interstate over the past few years I think the Eagles will get home.

North Melbourne V Fremantle Saturday night at Etihad Stadium

It’s do or die for both teams Saturday night with both teams in desperate need of a win to keep finals hopes alive.

The Kangaroos are looking to include ruckman Hamish McIntosh for his first game this year to help out in the ruck against Fremantles Aaron Sandilainds. Coming off the bye North should be well rested to make a final tilt at September action.

The Dockers must win this match to put some pressure on Sydney and Essendon for top spot and with a match against Collingwood next week and the Bulldogs at Etihad in the coming weeks this looms as a win or go home match. Dockers fans will be glad to see star David Mundy back this week after missing the last 8 weeks and also hard nut Adam McPhee.

With a better knowledge of the ground and being a bit fresher I think the Roos will win and put an end to Fremantles season.

The Magpie juggernaut kept rolling last Friday with a workmanlike win over the Saints. The Pies may look at trying a few different things this week in the lead up to September. Skipper Nick Maxwell will most likely miss the rest of the Home and away season with a thumb injury but in better news Chris Dawes and Alan Toovey could return this week.

After a poor season the only thing the Lions wanted to do for the remainder of the season was to get a win over their Queensland rival Gold Coast, they achieved this last week. Don’t expect too much from the Lions this week, as long as they are competitive and hard at the ball Michael Voss will walk away happy.

Sydney V St Kilda Sunday at ANZ Stadium

This is a possible Elimination final preview with 6th playing 8th on the ladder. The Swans were very disappointing against the Tigers last week and have left the door open for a couple of teams to steal their spot in the eight. Quite a few Swans players might face the axe this week after poor games last week and with Nick Malceski, Gary Rohan and Trent Dennis-Lane waiting for a call up.

The Saints were not disgraced last week against Collingwood but showed they still need some more improvement if they want to make their third Grand Final in a row. Nick Reiwoldt does not look to be the player he used to be and needs to lift late in the season for his team.

This is likely to be a low scoring hard fought game rather than a shootout with the Saints kicking a few late to beak away from the Swans.

Port Adelaide V Bulldogs Sunday at AAMI Stadium

I don’t know if there is anything positive to say about Port Adelaide after back to back club record losses. They were woeful against Hawthorn last week and Matthew Primus is likely to swing the axe again at selection. Dean Brogan and Tom Logan are 2 likely inclusions but the power need a lot more help than this.

With their season effectively over the Bulldogs have now lost their coach for next season with Rodney Eade being let go. I expect this (and the opposition) to be enough to get the Dogs barking again and get their 8th win of the season. Look out for Barry Hall to have a big day in his third last game of AFL footy.

These two sides always seem to put on an entertaining game and with not a lot to play for for the remainder of the season this could turn into a high scoring shootout. The Demons will be looking to get caretaker coach Todd Viney his first victory and the inclusion of skipper Brad Green will be welcomed.

The Dockers return home needing a win to stay in touch with the 8 after dropping to ninth after last weeks loss. They will lose Adam McPhee for a week with suspension but should regain superstar ruckman Aaron Sandilainds as Mark Harvey now realises Frmantles season is on the line.

Carlton had an easy win against Melbourne last Saturday but coach Brett Ratten was not overly happy with the Blues game. It’s always harder to beat Fremantle in Perth than it is at home and they will need all guns firing to get the win and stay in the top four.

Western Bulldogs V Essendon Saturday night at Etihad Stadium

The Dogs are rested after a week off with the bye and have a long list of people to include in the side headlined by Cooney, Morris and Higgins but are sure to be without Tom Williams. They need to win 4 out of 4 in the run home to have any chance of making finals so expect them to come out all guns blazing.

What a comeback by the Bombers last week against the Swans to sneak home by a point. These are the games Essendon needs to win though to secure its top eight spot. With a bye in Round 24 they will not be able to do anything but sit back and hope results go their way to stay in the eight. Andrew Welsh and Nathan Lovett-Murray are two possible inclusions for the Bombers but I don’t expect to many changes to the side that beat the Swans.

This could be another Saturday night nail biter.

Brisbane V Gold Coast Saturday night at the Gabba

Q clash #2 should be a great game to watch with Brisbane out to show the Gold Coast that they are the number one team in Queensland and the Gold Coast wanting to prove that the win over the Lions earlier in the season was no fluke.

Brisbane let one slip against the Crows last week after leading by 4 goals mid way through the last term. Josh Drummond will come back into the Lions side to bolster their defence. Expect to see Ash McGrath forward again this week after his stellar effort against the Suns earlier in the year.

The Gold Coast are coming off a footy lesson against the Cats last week being thrashed by 150 points. Captain Gary Ablett will have a fitness test to determine if his hamstring is ok to play which would be a huge boost for the young Suns. Campbell Brown will miss the remainder of the season though which is a big loss down back. I think the Lions might have a sour taste in their mouth after the loss earlier in the year and will be too strong for the young Suns who look to be tiring as the season goes on.

Tip: Lions by 34 points.

Melbourne V West Coast Sunday at Etihad Stadium

The Demons need to show some pride, come out hard and get stand in coach Todd Viney his first win. If they stick to their game plan and use the knowledge of the MCG to their advantage I can see them pulling off a big upset this week and keeping finals hopes alive. Liam Jurrah, Colin Sylvia, Mark Jamar and Cale Morton all look to be recalled to the side this week.

The Eagles have some injury worries with star ruckman Dean Cox and defender Eric Mackenzie facing fitness tests this week and Matt Rosa definitely out. The Eagles are another team that needs to keep winning to keep the pressure on Hawthorn and Carlton for a top four spot but I have a sneaky suspension that the Dees might get up here.

Richmond V Sydney Sunday at the MCG

With the Tigers season effectively over they need to start working out what to do for next year and try a few players in some different roles, will they start that this week against the Swans though as they still need to win back some respect from the footy public and their supporters after a very disappointing second half to the season. Daniel Jackson is likely to miss for the Tigers which could open the door for Damien Hardwick to get a youngster in there and get him some experience.

The Swans cost themselves the game with some very poor kicking for gaol in the last quarter against Essendon last week. Adam Goodes will be out to have a good game after he missed a few he would normally convert including that kick after the siren. Gary Rohan looks to be fit again and could be an inclusion into the side.

Too much to play for for Sydney here, they should get the points.

Adelaide V Geelong Sunday at AAMI Satdium

The Crows are 2 for 2 under Mark Bickley and are finally putting some decent scores on the board with back to back 100 point games. Will the new attacking game style help them out against the Cats or leave them wide open to be hurt on the turnover against a Geelong side that has won by a combined 336 points in the past 2 weeks.

Geelong will bring back Brad Ottens and defender Corey Enright for Brownlow Medalist Jimmy Bartell’s 200th game. I am not sure if the Cats will make it 2 straight games winning over 100 points but they will win easily over in Adelaide and keep the pressure on Collingwood for top spot.

The Saints and Dockers kick of the Round Friday night with both sides desperate for a win to keep there spot in the eight. Match of the Round for me will be Essendon Vs Sydney Saturday night in what promises to be a rippa. Collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn, Carlton & West Coast should all have wins to keep the top end of the ladder looking the same at the completion of the round twenty.

Best Bet of Round 20 for me is the Bombers between 1-39 against the Swans Saturday Night which is paying $2.55 at Sportsbet.

St Kilda V Fremantle Friday night at Etihad Stadium

The Saints were not really impressive last week against the Gold Coast without skipper Nick Riewoldt who they will welcome back this week after his one week suspension. This is a crucial game for the Saints who could skip 6 points clear of eighth placed Fremantle and possibly into fifth spot if they can beat them and the Swans lose to Essendon.

The Dockers were poor last week against the Hawks with the game effectively over at quarter time before the rain come and so did the injuries for Fremantle. Surely they must get Sandilainds back in the side soon if they are serious about making finals.

The Saints should be too strong at home though.

Carlton V Melbourne Saturday at the MCG

The Blues played a scrappy first 3 quarters last week before showing their class in the last to run over the Roos. Bryce Gibbs was superb in a week where skipper Chris Judd was a bit flat. Andrew Walker continues his stellar season up forward and it only 5 goals off leader Buddy Franklin in the race for the Coleman medal.

Not much more can be said about the Demons 186 point thrashing at the hands of Geelong last week. Todd Viney takes over from Dean Bailey in the coaches box and is sure to be telling his players to go out hard against Carlton this week after fiery Blue Mitch Robinson suggested they play “bruise free footy”after the teams met earlier this season. In some good news for Melbourne fans this week they will see the return of Aaron Davey, Tom Scully & Clint Bartram. Don’t be too surprised if there are a lot more changes after last weeks effort though.

Geelong V Gold Coast Saturday at Skilled Stadium

The Cats smashed a lot of records last week, can they go one better this week against the Gold Coast? Nathan Vardy will be pushing for selection this week as will James Podsiadly but don’t expect too many changes after the 186 point win last week.

The Suns showed a lot of good signs against the Saints last week before falling 20 points short. Skipper Gary Ablett will make his long awaited return to Skilled Stadium after he left the Cats at the end of 2010. How will the Cats fans react to him when he runs out on Saturday? If the Gold Coast can keep the margin under 10 goals I will say they have done a good job. If the Cats want to win by over 100 points again they will, or will they take it easy on the newcomers.

Essendon V Sydney Saturday night at Etihad Stadium

The injuries keep mounting up on the Bombers who have the longest injury list in the AFL. Essendon shocked a lot of people when they led at halftime against the Pies but run out of breath and got blown away in the second half for the second week in a row. Fitness tests to Dustin Fletcher, Heath Hocking, Michael Hurley, Nathan Lovett-Murray, David Myers and Scott Gumbleton could see a few changes at Bomberland this week.

The Swans are rested coming off they bye but know they must win these type of games to keep there final eight spot. Currently sitting sixth, with a win they can go 8 points ahead of ninth placed Essendon, with a loss they will find themselves even on points and right there in the fight for seventh and eighth spot. Expect a big game from leaders Adam Goodes, Jude Bolton and Heath Grundy.

This has the potential to be the most exciting match of the round, I think the Bombers will just get over the line in a close one.

Port Adelaide V Collingwood Saturday at AAMI Stadium

Not even the benefit of a week off last week will help Port Adelaide in this one against the Magpies. Port need a win out of there remaining 5 games to get themselves off the bottom of the ladder but there is no chance it will come this week against the Pies who are getting ready for September.

Collingwood were slow out of the block against the Bombers but showed their class in the second half and took them to the cleaners. Scott Pendlebury continued his stellar season and has to now be hot favourite for the Brownlow medal. Expect Mick Malthouse to rest a few this week as this one is i the bag already.

Tip: Pies by 50 points

Brisbane V Adelaide Sunday at the Gabba

Another team coming off the bye last week were the Lions who also need a win to go a game clear if the Suns. Brisbane got the job done in Adelaide earlier in the season for one of their 3 wins this season and will be looking to hand Crows stand in coach Mark Bickley his first loss.

With the news of young defender Phil Davis signing with GWS next season Adelaide will be out to prove he has made the wrong decision and that they are heading in the right direction. They showed against the Power last week that they still have a lot of good players but with speculation hanging over the heads of Taylor Walker and Bernie Vince you have to wonder if they are giving it their all in the remaining games of the season.

Hawthorn V North Melbourne Sunday at Aurora Stadium

The Hawks put on a show in the first quarter last week against Freo and had the game under control from there on. Even without Lance Franklin kicking a major the Hawks still got up by 51 points. Luke Hodge will be a welcome inclusion after missing last week with soreness, Shane Savage will be a chance also, but who Alistair Clarkson leaves out will be the hard decision.

The kangaroos showed some spirit in the first 3 quarters last week but got overrun by the Blues. Drew Petrie was well held so expect him to be looking to dominate against a short Hawks defence. His midfielders need to lift and get him some good delivery if the Roos are a chance in the first meeting between these two sides this year in what could be the “Tasmanian Derby” in years to come.

West Coast V Richmond Sunday at Paterson Stadium

After hitting teammate Josh Kennedy in the face with a tennis ball and ruling him out last week big man Dean Cox stood up when it counted most in the last quarter to get the Eagles over the line against the Dogs. John Worsfold would not have been impressed with his sides second half but will take the victory to stay in touch with Carlton and Hawthorn. Nic Naitanui should return this week after missing last weeks win.

The Tigers travel west after having the bye last week and desperately need a win if they have any hopes whatsoever of playing finals. It is a long shot but if they win their remaining five games they are a chance. I can’t see this happening, especially this week as they come up against in in form Eagles hungry for a top four spot.

With Richmond, Sydney & Brisbane all having the bye we kick off Round Nineteen Friday night with traditional Friday Night Footy Rivals North Melbourne & Carlton squaring off in what is a must win for the Roos. The Dockers V Hawks game Saturday night should be a cracker, Collingwood and Essendon will pull a big crowd to the MCG on Sunday whilst in Adelaide it is Showdown time to conclude the Round.

Best Bet of Round 19 for me is the Blues by over 40 points against the Kangaroos on Friday Night Footy which is paying $2.80 at Sportsbet.

North Melbourne V Carlton Friday night at Etihad Stadium

The Roos could welcome back big man Hamish McIntosh to partner number 1 ruck-man Todd Goldstien against Carltons tall timber. Also in good form in the reserves for the Roos were Nathan Grima, Gavin Urquhart & Lindsay Thomas kicked 4.4 for North Ballarat. The Roos will need a big upset here to keep their September dream alive.

Carlton were awesome in the second half last week blowing the Bombers away. Led by skipper Chris Judd and small forward Eddie Betts kicking 8 goals they gave Essendon a football lesson. Can Andrew Walker climb high again and maybe take another Mar of the Year contender.. The Blues easily in this one for me.

Injury concerns over a host of big names including Cooney, Cross, Morris, Higgins, Picken & Gilbee will make things tough for the doggies.

The Eagles coming off a nail biter against Fremantle will only strengthen their side with the possible inclusion of Daniel Kerr. To keep in touch with Calrton & Hawthorn the Eagles need to win these games and after beating the Dogs by over 100 points earlier in the season I think they can get the job done again.

Geelong V Melbourne Saturday at Skilled Stadium

The Cats return to Skilled Stadium this week where they are unstoppable. A dominant first half was all they needed against Richmond last week to get the points. Steve Johnson, Cameron Ling and Brad Ottens should all slot back into the Cats lineup which could also feature Cameron Mooney if coach Scott thinks it is the right time to bring him back into the seniors.

Melbourne were ordinary last week against the Hawks and face an uphill battle to make the finals with games against the top sides coming up over the next 3 weeks starting with the Cats this week. Scully & Jurrah should return but it wont be enough to beat the Cats in Geelong.

Tip: Cats by 58 points

Gold Coast V St Kilda Saturday night at Metricon Stadium

The Suns were not blown away by the Pies by over 100 points last week like many would have thought. The fact that they stuck in there and gave it a good hard crack will have made coach Guy McKenna very happy. Karmichael Hunt is a chance this week after starring in the midfield in the reserves last week.

The Saints had their best win of the season last Friday night, smashing the Crows by a whopping 103 points. Stevie Milne was superb kicking 8, Schnieder adding 5 and Dal Santo starring in the midfield. St Kilda will be without captain Nick Reiwoldt this weekend though due to suspension but I can’t see this being too much trouble for the Saints who are on a roll.

Tip: Saints by 45 points

Fremantle V Hawthorn Saturday night at Paterson Stadium

Fremanlte come up just 1 point short last week in a spirited last quarter comeback against West Coast. Sandilainds still isn’t ready to go and fellow ruckman Jonathan Griffin looks set to miss also which may open the door for Kepler Bradley. The Dockers will also miss Luke McPharlin through suspension which would hurt them as he would have been the number one pick to line up on Buddy Franklin.

Hawthorn fought back to overrun the Dockers in the last quarter earlier this season at the MCG but the job will be a lot harder at Patersons Stadium. The Hawks are taking some good form into the game though after easily dispatching of Melbourne last week. The Hawks will be out for revenge on the same ground the Dockers beat them in last years Elimination final and will only be strengthened by the possible returns of Bateman, Suckling & Lisle with young gun Shane Savage set to miss through injury. This should be a cracker of a match.

Tip: Hawks by 15 points

Collingwood V Essendon Sunday at the MCG

The Pies looked to take the foot off the pedal in the second half last week against the Suns last week but had already done the job in the first half. Darren jolly will return after a week off with the flu to play his 200th game. Sidebottom, Didak and Beams are also possibilities to be included with Daisy Thomas and Ben Johnson possible outs through injury.

The Bombers were woeful in the second half against Carlton last week and paid the price. James Hird will have the luxury of Jobe Watson finally getting over a hamstring injury to return to the side and Dustin Fletcher but will miss defender Taite Pears for 2 to 3 weeks which could hurt the Bombers final hopes. Essendon have there backs against the wall and need to do a number on the Pies like they did to Geelong earlier in the year to continue their push towards September. Unfortunately for Bombers fans I can’t see this happening though.

Tip: Pies by 37 points

Adelaide V Port Adelaide Sunday at AAMI Stadium

In a match the not many people out of Adelaide will care much about club champion Mark Bickley will make his coaching debut for the Crows after the resignation of Niel Craig during the week. The Crows players will be out to give their new coach a first up win. Taylor Walker along with Chris Knights are possible inclusions for the Crows.

The Power come off the bye and straight into another showdown with the Crows. Justin Westhoff will return for Port but Dean Brogan and Alipate Carlile are still a week or two off.

Expect a few fireworks in this one which could be an ugly game of footy to watch, but could be the closest of the round.

With Blockbusters between Essendon & Carlton and Fremantle V West Coast as the standout matches also expect to see the top two sides dominate their opponents and get a percentage boost as Collingwood take on the Gold Caost for the first time and the Geelong hosting Richmond at Etihad Stadium.

St Kilda V Adelaide Friday night at Etihad Satdium

The Saints continued their hot form last week knocking off the Eagles, even without scoring at all in the third quarter. They will lose defender James Gwilt for the rest of the season with Jason Blake looking to be his replacement.

The Crows definitely let a chance slip last week after they led the Bombers by 36 points at half time but ended up going down by 11 points. A hip injury to star defender Graham Joncock could see him sidelined for this match, even with him I can’t see them knocking off St Kilda.

Tip: Saint by 32 points

North Melbourne V Brisbane Saturday at Etihad Stadium

The Kangaroos kept their slim finals hopes alive last week with a hard-fought victory against the Doggies. Drew Petrie starred once again kicking 5 goals and Andrew Swallow and Daniel Wells dominated in the midfield.

Brisbane’s season went from bad to worse last week as captain Jonathan Brown once again got knocked out and will now miss the remainder of the season. Fellow big man Mitch Clark is also in doubt, likely replacement for the pair are Bryce Retzlaff and Aaron Cornelius. If Brisbane can play with the same intensity as they did for 3 quarters against the Cats they will also give the Kangaroos a scare.

I think to Roos will jump out of the blocks early in this one, that’s why the first quarter being the highest scoring of the game at 3.80 stands out to me.

Sydney V Western Bulldogs Saturday at the SCG

This looms as a must win for both sides, if the Swans want to consolidate a spot in the top eight they need to start putting together back to back wins. They have not been dominating at the SCG this year as they have been in past seasons and need to make this a place teams fear to come and play at once again.

The Doggies let a golden chance slip last week to jump to ninth and be just 2 points out of they eight as they lost to the Kangaroos. With the retirement announcement of Barry Hall this week, along with the spearheads knowledge of the SCG I think the Doggies can bring home the 4 points and leave the Swans in danger of dropping out of the eight.

Tip: Bulldogs by 15 points

Gold Coast V Collingwood Saturday night at Metricon Stadium

The Suns got themselves of the bottom of the ladder with a superb win against the Tigers in Round 17. They will need a miracle to get over the top of the table reigning premier Magpies though.

After a horror week off the field the Pies were not dominant against the Blues last week but had enough class to get the job done. The form of Daisy Thomas this year has been outstanding and must put him on Brownlow Medal talks. The Pies will dominate the Suns in the first ever meeting between the 2 sides.

Tip: Pies by 78 points

Odds: Suns 21.00 Pies 1.01

Although the Pies will dominate this game I am taking a Punt and saying that the Gold Caost will kick the first scoring play, a point at $6.20

Essendon V Carlton Saturday night at the MCG

If this game is anything like the draw these two sides out on earlier in the year it is bound to be a blockbuster. The Bombers could jump up to sixth if Freo lose and the Blues could drop to fifth if the same result happens so there is a lot riding on this match.

Essendon started slowly last week but were superb in a second half come back in Adelaide. Angus Monfries had his best game of the season and David Zaharakis continues to impress. Captain Jobe Watson and Michael Hibbard will be welcome inclusions to the side.

The Blues performed strongly against the Pies last week and stuck with them most of the day. Andrew Carrazzo and Jordan Russell could come back into the side after recovering from injury. The Bombers have had the wood over the Blues for a while but I think with the form of the Blues stars this year they can put an end to this trend.

Tip: Blues by 7 points

Odds: Bombers 2.65 Blues 1.48

The odds are against a second draw between these two sides this season, but I got to put five bucks on it at $67.00 just incase

Geelong V Richmond Sunday at the Etihad Stadium

The Cats got a scare last week from the Lions but a brilliant 8 goal haul from James Podsiadly got them over the line. The Cats forward line could also see the inclusion of veteran Cameron Mooney after strong performances in the VFL in past weeks.

The Tigers were humiliated last week losing to the Gold Coast and the task of redeeming themselves is not an easy one facing the Cats. Damien Hardwick is sure to get the axe out and drop a few players with Mitch Morton and Brad Miller looking to be recalled to the senior side.

Tip: Cats by 58 points

Melbourne V Hawthorn Sunday at the MCG

The Demons sit just one win out of the eight and will need a huge effort to overcome the Hawks coming off a bye. Brendon Fevola kicked 11 goals in the VFL last week but don’t expect to see him lining up for Melbourne.

The bye appears to have come at a great time for the Hawks as they have had the chance to get some injured players fit. They could welcome back as many as 5 “best 22″ players, Chance Bateman, Brad Sewell, Cyril Rioli and Jordan Lisle from injury and Jordan Lewis from suspension. too much class all over the ground for the Hawks and they should get the points.

Tip: Hawks by 25 points

Fremantle V West Coast Sunday at Paterson Stadium

The Western Derby is always a hard one to pick, this week is even harder to pick with both sides in good form and occupying 5th and 6th on the ladder. If the Dockers can beat the Eagles they will be even on points but will stay in sixth as the Eagles have a way superior percentage,

Nick Suban is almost certain to be included in the Dockers 22 and superstar Aaron Sandilainds is also a chance to play his first game since Round 12.

West Coast are coming off a rare loss and will be out to rectify this and stay in touch with the top four. Daniel Kerr will be a welcome inclusion after the Eagles were hurt badly in the stopages against the Saints last week.

Tip: Eagles by 24 points

Adelaide V Essendon Friday night at AAMI Stadium

Adelaide have had the better of Essendon lately at AAMI stadium with some big wins, they face an Essendon outfit full of confidence though after winning two on the trot. Coming off the bye Adelaide will still be missing tall forward Taylor Walker after receiving a one match ban. They will look to welcome back Ricky Henderson but will also need to cover the loss of Richard Douglas and Ian Callinan.

The Bombers will still be without captain Jobe Watson but are likely to recall defender Cale Hooker who has overcome a hamstring injury. A Blockbuster at the G on Saturday afternoon could turn into a demolition at the G if the Blues play like they did last week. This promises to be a great game with both teams fighting for different things. Justin Koschitzke has not been named to play after serving his 2 match suspension and could been a massive help for Ben McEvoy in the ruck against West Coasts dominating duo of Dean Cox and Nic Natnui.

The Eagles will look to continue their impressive form and if the Blues lose and Eagles win they will jump into fourth spot on the ladder. Quinten Lynch will return from suspension, Beau Waters could return after overcoming a elbow injury that has kept him sidelined since Round 2. I think this will be a great match that could go down to the last few minutes of the game. West Coast in a close one for me.

The Demons should be refreshed after a week off and will look to regain their spot in the eight on Saturday night in Darwin. Aaron Davey could possibly make his return this week for the Dees which will strengthen their midfield but they will look to Liam Jurrah up forward to continue his stellar season and kick a bag.

Port were horrible at home against St Kilda last week but will take confidence up to Darwin after recording a win up there earlier in the season against Richmond. Jacob Surjan should be a automatic call up after a strong showing in the SANFL last weekend but if Jackson Trengove does not come up after injuring his arm against the Saints this will leave Port a bit smaller down back and in the ruck.

Lets hope that the ground staff have the lights working this time around up there.

Sydney V Fremantle Sunday at the SCG

This could be a season defining game for both sides who are sitting 6th and 7th on the ladder with a few teams looking to take their spot. Sydney had an easy win against the Suns last week and will look to keep the ball in close and not let the Dockers get their running game going. Jude Bolton will not be available for this match after injuring himself in the warm up last week.

After a week off Fremantle have had the chance to freshen up some bodies and will almost certainly recall star midfielder Michael Barlow and versatile forward/ruck Kepler Bradley. For Fremantle to win I think the will need a best on ground performance from captain Matthew Pavlich, but how much longer can the Dockers rely on him to win them games?

Brisbane V Geelong Sunday at the Gabba

The Lions showed signs of improvement against the Hawks last week but still went down by 42 points. Michael Voss needs to figure out a game plan to stop opposing defenders double teaming Jonathan Brown every time the ball goes near him or they are going to be in trouble for the remainder of the season.

Who would have thought the Cats would lose 2 straight after winning their first 13 of the year. Surely this will be the game to end the losing streak. Joel Selwood will be back after serving his 4 match ban but the Cats will lose Brad Ottens for a week. I can’t see the Cats losing this one, they should easily account for Brisbane.

This is another season defining game possibly as both teams look to stay in touch with the eight. The Kangaroos were woeful last week, going down by 117 points, but what was even more disappointing was the effort of the players. Brad Scott would have been shattered by the effort they put up and will have put them through some tough training sessions this week. Captain Brent Harvey is in doubt which could make things even harder for the Roos.

The Dogs are coming off their best performance of the year last week, beating fourth placed Carlton to be sitting just 2 points out of the eight. Will Rodney Eade stick with the same side that beat the Blues or choose to include Tom Liberatore, Will Minson, Dylan Addison, Ryan Hargrave or Ed Barlow who are all pushing for selection. I think the Dogs can get the points here and maybe put an end to the Kangaroos season.
