Only 7 games this week in the AFL with Melbourne, Adelaide & Fremantle all having the bye. Friday night footy should be a cracking game over in Perth with the in form Eagles taking on Geelong after their first loss of the season. We conclude the round Sunday afternoon with what promises to be another cracking game between the Blues and the Dogs.

Best Bet of Round 16: My Best bet or Round 16 is the Cats over the Eagles between 1 – 39 which is paying 2.45 at sportsbetting.

West Coast V Geelong Friday night at Patersons Stadium

This shapes to be a great matchup over in Perth with the Eagles very hard to beat at home. They will need all big guns firing though if they want to inflict Geelongs second straight loss.

The Cats were shocked last week by Essendon, I always thought they were going to get over the top of the Bombers but fell short by 4 points. Podsiadly was quiet last week and they will need him firing this week against a Eagles side eager to beat another top 4 side.

Tip: Cats by 9 points

Odds Eagles 2.00 Cats 1.82

Hawthorn V Brisbane Saturday at Aurora Stadium

The Hawks played out the match last week well not to get blown away by any more than 41 points against Collingwood. The injury ravaged Hawks lost another key tall defender in Jordan Lisle and will be sweating on tests to Lance Franklin, Chance Bateman & Michael Osbourne to see if they are fit to play.

The Lions kicked the last 4 goals of the game to get over Port Adelaide last week but were not convincing at all throughout the day. They will need a miracle to beat the Hawks down in Tassie. The Hawks easily for me in this one.

Tip: Hawks by 56 points

Odds: Hawks 1.10 Lions 7.00

Gold Coast V Sydney Saturday night at Metricon Stadium

The Suns will have to enter this game with confidence after a strong showing against Fremantle last week, only really losing touch in the last quarter. The form of Gary Ablett will see him poll well in the Brownlow Medal count but the Suns need to win a few more games if he has a chance to win it, this could be a game where they could shock some people.

Sydney lost in the wet last week to Adelaide and travel to the Gold Coast this week for their second match in a row on the road. If they want to be a serious contender this year they need to put sides like this away, not like last week against Adelaide where they let one slip.

Tip: Swans by 33 points

Odds: Suns 5.25 Swans 1.16

Essendon V Richmond Saturday night at the MCG

The Bombers become the first team to beat the Cats this year last week with a stunning win. Their pressure on the ball was amazing, the big question is though, can they do it 2 weeks in a row? The only change that will be made at Bomberland is that Andrew Welsh will be out with a hamstring injury.

The Tigers let down their fans last week with a dismal display against Carlton, losing by 103 points. They have already beaten Essendon this year in the dream time at the G match, I am not sure they can do it again though after seeing how different the two teams played last week, they will need a complete reversal in form, I can’t see it happening though.

Tip: Bombers by 22 points

Odds: Bombers 1.53 Tigers 250

Collingwood V North Melbourne Sunday at the MCG

The Magpies will miss Chris Dawes for around 6 weeks with a broken knuckle and will be missed up forward but I don’t think it will be too much of a problem this week. The Pies got the job done in the first half last week against the Hawks and looked to be in cruise control for the rest of the match to take down another flag contender.

The Kangaroos let a golden opportunity to slip into the eight go last week when they lost to St Kilda who did not score in the last quarter. These are chances North need to take if they want to be playing Finals. I do not give them any chance at all this week against the Pies who will beat the easily.

Tip: Pies by 60 points

Odds: Magpies 1.07 Kangaroos 8.50

Port Adelaide V St Kilda Sunday at AAMI Stadium

Port should have got the points last week against the Lions but let the game slip away late up at the Gabba. They return home hoping to beat a Saints side that has finals in sight again. Jason Davenport, Jacob Surjan and Mitch Banner could come back into the side for Port if Matthew Primus axes a few others.

The Saints showed a bit of form last week against North that has been missing this year. Although they did not score in the last quarter their defense was showing signs of what it can do to sides, keeping North to just 1 goal in the quarter also. Goddard, Reiwoldt & Dal Santo were impressive and will continue their good form this week to beat Port.

Tip: Saints by 35 points

Odds: Power 3.75 Saints 1.27

Western Bulldogs V Carlton Sunday at Etihad Stadium

The dogs are another team making a run to September and put their best performance of they year together last week against Melbourne. They will need an even better effort against an in form Blues side if they want to get the 4 points.

The Blues smashed the Tigers last week in one of the best displays of the season. Chris Judd was fantastic, their forward line shared the goals and their back line was very strong, an all round team effort. They should be able to get the points against the Dogs, but Carlton fans will be hoping they don;t come into this game with an attitude that they will simply show up and win, if they do the Dogs could cause an upset.

Tip: Blues by 19 points

Odds: Bulldogs 3.65 Blues 1.28
