The decisions by Peter Moody and Gai Waterhouse to bypass this year’s Coolmore Classic with their respective stars Typhoon Tracy and More Joyous, has now made the Group One event an extremely challenging one for punters. In a very even race Moody may still take out the event with his other filly Set For Fame.
The filly has drawn wide but might repeat what Typhoon Tracy did in the race last year and get across easily and sit in behind Gold Water who should lead.
In early markets Lady Lynette (6.00) and Palacio De Cristal (8.50) have shortened and while Lady Lynette has drawn well, the tempo of the race might not suit Palacio De Cristal.
Three and four year olds have a good recent record in this and Palacio De Cristal ran a cracking race in the Apollo Stakes, but with no genuine speed on she might be too late charging home.
The Coolmore Classic is one of two Group One races scheduled for the opening day of the Golden Slipper Carnival with the other, the Ranvet Stakes over 2000 metres.
The Ranvet will see Theseo (2.90) and Rangirangdoo (3.90) do battle again with Theseo attempting to win the race for the second year in a row.
