See Round 2 2011 Footy Tips Here

Round 2 footy tips are fairly straight forward with majority of the odds going well and truly with the favourites this weekend. The AFL match of the Round Two is the Geelong V Hawks game on Monday and the top of the table Hawks (after 1 round) will be looking to kickstart their season with a win over last years premiers.

It’s not too late to join Sportsbet Million Dollar Tipping, its free to play and home games have been picked for new players that missed round 1

Brisbane V  Carlton Thursday Night at the Gabba

Tip: Brisbane

Odds: Brisbane 1.33 Carlton 3.30

The Lions showed the force they will bring in 2010 from their forwards with Fev and Brown having 17 scoring shots between them last week. Although they looked a little rough around the edges for the first three quarters, a 7 goal to 2 made amends. They will once again be tough to hold down on Thursday and I predict an easy win for Brisbane. The Lions expect Jed Adcock to be right to play after sustaining an ankle injury.

Collingwood V Melbourne Saturday at the MCG

Tip: Collingwood

Odds: Collingwood 1.05 Melbourne 10.00

I hate to say it but I think the Pies are in for a good year this year. They outclassed one of the Premiership favourites in the Bulldogs last week and should have the Demons wrapped up at half time. Melbourne look to include Colin Sylvia in their line up after he fractured his jaw in the pre season but wont do much to stop the Collingwood onslaught.

West Coast V Port Adelaide Saturday Night at Subiaco Oval

Tip: West Coast

Odds: West Coast 1.58 Port Adelaide 2.40

The Eagles should put up a fight at home this weekends. They are a young quick team and have heaps of promise and should match up against a solid Port Adelaide side. Daniel Motlop should be right to play for Port after some hamstring tightness but I’m tipping West Coast will be to strong at home.

St Kilda V North Melbourne Saturday Night at Etihad Stadium

Tip: St Kilda

Odds: St Kilda 1.14 North Melbourne 5.75

With a close win over Sydney last week the Saints will be out to setup a comfortable win to keep off any pressure. St Kilda will be without forward Justin Koschitzke for the next three weeks after a late and high bump on Sydneys Nick Malceski. He will be missed but St Kilda has proven they have a long list and should get more than enough goals from their midfield to make up for it.

Adelaide V Sydney Sunday at AAMI Stadium

Tip: Adelaide

Odds: Adelaide 1.57 Sydney 2.42

After the shock loss to Fremantle, Adelaide should bounce back with a win at home this weekend. Taylor Walker look impressive for the Crows with 4 goals and will be the one to keep an eye out for along with the explosive Lewis Jetta for Sydney who loves to break the lines.

Essendon V Fremantle Sunday at Etihad Stadium

Tip: Essendon

Odds: Essendon 1.48 Fremantle 2.70

Freo haven’t been able to beat Essendon at Etihad Stadium for many many years. Essendon will be out to show Ex Don Adam McPhee why he should have stayed in Victoria. I’m tipping Essendon by over 39 points.

Richmond V Western Bulldogs Sunday Afternoon at the MCG

Tip: Western Bulldogs

Odds: Western Bulldogs 1.05 Richmond 10.00

This wont be a great game to watch for Tiger supporters. The Bulldogs will be out for blood after their shock loss to Collingwood and will fight out the game for the full four quarters. My prediction is Barry Hall to have a 5 goal + game. Richmond haven’t beaten the Bulldogs since round 3 in 2005.

Hawthorn V Geelong Monday at the MCG

Tip: Geelong

Odds: Hawthorn 2.50 Geelong 1.55

Defiantly the match of round two. These two heavy weights . Brent Renouf and Cyril Rioli look set to come back from injury for the Hawks and Geelong look to recall Max Rooke to their line up. It should be an amazing match to watch and a great way to end the Easter long weekend.

Footy Fightback Strikes Again

By on March 31, 2010

For the second time on the weekend, Sportsbet punters who backed a team leading at three quarter time that ultimately lost the match had their bets refunded courtesy of Sportsbet’s Footy Fightback Bet Refund Offer.

On Saturday night, punters who backed West Coast to defeat Brisbane had their bets refunded as the Eagles led by two points at three quarter time but were outgunned in the final term to lose by 32 points, while on Friday night the Bombers led by six points at three quarter time but were overrun by the Cats to the tune of 31 points.

Sportsbet’s AFL Footy Fightback Bet Refund Offer remains valid for all matches.

“We’ve already refunded more than 800 bets to members who backed losing teams,” said Sportsbet’s Haydn Lane.

See the Sportsbet Website for more information on the Footy Fightback offer.

Following today’s barrier draw, IASbet’s Gerard Twomey says Crystal Lily is the horse to beat in the 2010 Golden Slipper.

“Crystal Lily ($6.00 into $5.00) is my pick for the Slipper,” said IASbet’s Gerard Twomey. “She’s drawn perfectly and should be able to sit in behind the speed. She’s a strong filly that will have plenty in hand at the finish and is the one to beat.”

Twomey said Military Rose ($3.60) is a deserved favourite but may have a chink in his armor.

“He deserves to be favourite given what he has achieved, but second up after his Magic Millions campaign is a hard task and I think he is vulnerable,” said Twomey”

“Brightexpectations ($7.50 into $6.00) also drew well and should get the run of the race.”

Shaheeq and More Strawberries (both $15.00 out to $19.00) didn’t fare as well in the draw and their odds drifted accordingly.

2010 Golden Slipper
$3.60     Military Rose
$5.00     Crystal Lily
$6.00     Brightexpectations
$11.00     Chance Bye
$15.00     Hichinbrook
$11.00     Bennetau
$15.00     Solar Charged
$21.00     Decision Time
$19.00     More Strawberries
$19.00     Shaheeq
$26.00     Obsequious
$51.00     Elimbari
$101.00     Georgette Silk
$51.00     Carved In Stone
$151.00     Lohan

For the latest odds and markets for the 2010 Golden Slipper checkout the IASbet website.

That’s right people, just for depositing $150 with Luxbet you will receive a  genuine 2010 AFL, NRL or Rugby Union jumper.

Here’s how you can take advantage of the offer.

  1. Make an account here with Luxbet.
  2. Use the promo code Footy when joining
  3. Make your first deposit of $150 or more
  4. You will receive an email within 24 hours with a form to state your size, team etc.

Here’s the prices for the jumpers as stated on the Rebel Sports website.

NRL Jumper $159.99

Rugby Union Jumper $149.99

AFL Jumper $119.99

A easy as this offer sounds there are a few conditions. Unlike other sites I’m not going to keep you in the dark about them, here’s the few that stand out (see the full term and conditions here)

  • Before you can withdraw from your Luxbet account the Initial Deposit must be turned over at least five times on bets with a dividend greater than $1.50 within 90 days of the Initial Deposit being made.
  • Bets placed on different outcomes in the same event do not count.
  • Strictly one Prize offer per person, family, household address, email address, IP address, telephone number and payment method detail (e.g. the same debit/credit card number).

At first the five time turn over condition shocked me and I thought it was a bit rich. But then I realised that odds of $1.50 is pretty reasonable and could easily be achieved when sticking to as close to $1.50 odds as possible.

As for the one per household condition you will need to check that all the details are different if you decide to make another account for another family member whether he/she lives with you or not.

It may take a little effort but it is possible to get the footy jumper plus your $150 back into your bank account. In the end, I’m going to be putting a few bets on anyway so I might as well get a footy jumper out of it win or lose!

This great offer ends on the 16th of May so make your Luxbet account today and get your jumper on its way!

New spear head in Geelong’s forward line James Podsiadly will have a few punters hoping he kicks a few goals this year after they backed him to win the Coleman Medal before he was promoted to the senior list.

Online bookmaker Sportsbet reacted when the promotion news hit and the 28 year old’s price to win the Coleman Medal in his debut season went from $81 to $51.

One punter has $1000 on the Cat forward to win the Coleman at the astronomical odds of $501 for a potential $500,000 pay day.

“We stand to lose half a million on Podsiadly in one bet, let alone tens of thousands more from punters who backed him at $81 before the announcement of his promotion,” said Sportsbet’s Haydn Lane.

While Podsiadly is the bookie’s worst result, Lane said the biggest plunge had been saved for Western Bulldogs spearhead Barry Hall.

“Barry Hall has been the big firmer in Coleman Medal betting. You could get $17 about him in mid-February, now he’s the third favourite in betting at $6.50,” said Lane.

“Since the NAB Cup Grand Final, four out of every five bets we’ve taken on the Coleman have been on Big Bad Barry.”

Hawthorn’s Lance Franklin is favourite to take home the Coleman at $4, while Lions new recruit Brendan Fevola is the next best at $4.50.

The decisions by Peter Moody and Gai Waterhouse to bypass this year’s Coolmore Classic with their respective stars Typhoon Tracy and More Joyous, has now made the Group One event an extremely challenging one for punters. In a very even race Moody may still take out the event with his other filly Set For Fame.

The filly has drawn wide but might repeat what Typhoon Tracy did in the race last year and get across easily and sit in behind Gold Water who should lead.

In early markets Lady Lynette (6.00) and Palacio De Cristal (8.50) have shortened and while Lady Lynette has drawn well, the tempo of the race might not suit Palacio De Cristal.

Three and four year olds have a good recent record in this and Palacio De Cristal ran a cracking race in the Apollo Stakes, but with no genuine speed on she might be too late charging home.

The Coolmore Classic is one of two Group One races scheduled for the opening day of the Golden Slipper Carnival with the other, the Ranvet Stakes over 2000 metres.

The Ranvet will see Theseo (2.90) and Rangirangdoo (3.90) do battle again with Theseo attempting to win the race for the second year in a row.

The most anticipated National Hunt meeting, the Cheltenham Festival has delivered two days of unrivaled racing. Today is ladies day with the World Hurdle taking center stage. Friday will be the highlight of the festival with Denman and Kauto Star battling it out in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Round one of the 2010 AFL season is upon us and footy tipping will be very tough this year with the gap between the top four clubs shortening in what could be a very interesting year. Once again the team at Sportsbet Blog will give you our expert tips for every round this year along with a few good betting tips along the way.

It’s always hard to tip round 1 as so much can change during the off season but luckily I predict a fairly straight forward round.

The game of round 1 is defiantly the Western Bulldogs V Collingwood. Both teams have recruited well over the summer with the Bulldogs picking up the “Big Bad” Barry Hall who has shown what the year could bring booting 7 fine goals last week in the NAB Cup grand final. Collingwood had picked up ex St Kilda captain Luke Ball who has impressed in the preseason games and star ruckman Darren Jolly who at his 3rd club has be chosen in the Pies leadership group this year. It will be interesting how the new players go this week and should make for a very interesting game.

Best Bet for Round 1

This week I like Adelaide for the straight win. With odds of $1.78 at Sportsbet, I think there plenty of value to be had especially against the weaker Freo side.

Richmond V Carlton Thursday Night at the MCG

Tip: Carlton

Carlton: $1.45

Richmond: $2.80

The season opener should see Carlton get a early win on the board. Richmond looks like they may have another tough year starting at round one.

They will be without the important Jake King after being suspended during a NAB Challenge match against Collingwood last week (why get worked up in a preseason game!). Also the one and only Ben Cousins who isn’t 100% after being admitted to the hospital with gastric inflammation will not at his best.

Geelong V Essendon Friday Night at the MCG

Tip: Geelong

Geelong: $1.23

Essendon: $4.25

The Cats should roll the Bombers on Friday night. Essendon will have to make up for Leroy Jetta (Hand Injury) and Michael Hurley (Club Suspended) both will be out with Hurley to miss the first 3 rounds after a drunken incident in the Grand Final week last year.

Geelong should be at full strength and will be out to start off on a good note after a early drop out from the NAB Cup.

Melbourne V Hawthorn Saturday at the MCG

Tip: Hawthorn

Melbourne: $5.20

Hawthorn: $1.16

Unfortunately it could be history repeating itself for the Hawks with numerous injuries leading into the season proper. They should be able to hold Melbourne off this week but will take alot of perseverance from the Hawthorn midfield.

The Hawks will be without Buddy Franklin, Cyril Rioli, Simon Taylor (long term) and clouds of doubt over Jarryd Roughhead  and Glen Moss who will be 50/50 to play. Wayde Skipper has also been rubbed out for six to eight weeks with a damaged hamstring.

That being said I think they will regroup and beat Melbourne who are still in rebuilding stages.

Sydney V St Kilda Saturday Night at ANZ Stadium

Tip: St Kilda

Sydney: $2.70

St Kilda: $1.48

The Saints play well against Sydney and have a good record at ANZ Stadium. Last year (round 1) St Kilda kept Sydney goalless for 2 quarters of footy at ANZ stadium to run out 15 point winners in a low scoring game.

It will be interesting if the Saints will bounce back to their normal 2009 self after a lackluster NAB Cup series winning 2 games by a point (one of them against Sydney) and getting thrashed by the Bulldogs in the final.

The game will be won in Sydney’s forward line. With two of their top 5 goal kickers from last year in Hall and Jolly leaving the Swans players like Jesse White will have to step up and try and break the usually solid Saints back line.

Brisbane Lions V West Coast Saturday Night at the GABBA

Tip: Brisbane Lions

Brisbane: $1.36

West Coast: $3.20

The Lions, with their new look team and new “Paddle Pop Lion” logo will be one to watch this year if they can stick to the game plans and gel together. Brisbane now boast the most powerful forward line with Brendan Fevola and Jonathon Brown which should see them easily take care of West Coast at the Gabba on Saturday night.

Players like defender Josh Drummond and Justin Sherman have both had great preseasons and will be ones to watch.

Port Adelaide V North Melbourne Sunday at AMMI Stadium

Tip: Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide: $1.45

North Melbourne: $2.80

After an impressive NAB Cup campaign I expect big things from Port this year starting with the Kangaroos on Sunday.

Port impressed in their narrow loss to the Bulldogs a few weeks ago with Daniel Motlop and Justin Westhoff the shining light. They were on top of the Bulldogs for 90% of the game and if they can replicate the flare they played with they should run out easy victors over North Melbourne who will be with out Cruize Garlett, Majak Daw, Levi Greenwood and Ed Lower.

million dollar tippingWestern Bulldogs V Collingwood Sunday at Etihad Stadium

Tip: Western Bulldogs

Western Bulldogs: $1.64

Collingwood: $2.30

This weeks match of the round will attract a massive crowd and should be a great contest. Both teams are expected to do well this year and Collingwood will be out to knock off the NAB Cup winners and get off to a positive start.

I don’t think they can do it. The Bulldogs now have Barry Hall, the goto man and my Coleman Medal winner prediction. They look to be a near perfect side with the run through the middle and strength and height at either end. My prediction is for the Bulldogs to win by around 28 points.

Keep an eye out for Luke Ball for the Pies, he will be out to impress with his new club. He has racked up the possessions and kicked a few goals in the preseason cup.

Fremantle V Adelaide Sunday at Subiaco Oval

Tip: Adelaide

Fremantle: $2.00

Adelaide: $1.83

Adelaide haven’t had the best start into round one with numerous injuries to their senior players. Vince, McLeod, Burton, Edward, Thompson, Maric and Sellar have all had limited match time over the last few weeks but all are expect to play against Freo on Sunday afternoon.

I really can’t see where Freo could win this match, they are a young side who are still growing and will struggle with the skills of the Crows side. Good luck to coach Mark Harvey in what could be his last year at Freo with his contract running out at the end of the year.

Well we’ve had to wait another week to see if Denman is the best colt in Australia when he finally takes his place in Saturday’s Group One Australian Guineas at Flemington. Despite all of the drama, punters haven’t been shaken and he’s still the hot pick at $1.75.

In the Australian Cup, Shocking will now take his place after originally being scratched last week, and in an open field the Mark Kavanagh trained galloper is solid in the market at $7.50. With his excellent record at Flemington of three starts for three wins including the Melbourne Cup, Shocking will be very competitive in what doesn’t appear to be the strongest of Australian Cups.

In Sydney, the Group One Randwick Guineas looks to be a very even race, with the consistent Shoot Out well supported at $3.60. On a great program, top Golden Slipper aspirants step out in the Skyline Stakes and the Sweet Embrace Stakes.

Finish first with IASbet’s Australian Guineas and Cup Specials. Get your money back, even if your bet selection comes second and take on the champions with our head-to-heads and Special markets.

Preview

The 2010 AFL season is yet to kick off and we already have an epic on our hands for the NAB Cup grand final.

If this game is half as good as the 2009 preliminary final against the two sides (where St Kilda went onto win by 7 points) we will be in for a cracker.

Both teams have played good footy (when needed) leading into the final showing off some new talent along the way which could be the telling part of Saturday nights game.

For the Saints Rhys Stanley and Ben McEvoy have inspired in the last few weeks and both have been named to play in the grand final. Their height and speed played a welcome part in last weeks 70 point dismantling of Fremantle.
